|Located on the Lynn Canal 14 miles from Skagway, Haines, Alaska was a great place to visit. It was home to the most northern army base, Ft. Seward.
These homes were used by U.S. Army Officers in the past.
We took the city tour excursion .The bus took us to scenic spots around the city. We visited the small town museum. The highlight of the tour was a guided visit to a new building where old canning equipment was on display. The man that restored it enthusiastically described and demonstrated its function.
Our guide was a resident of Haines who is studying to be a speech and language therapist at the University of Oregon during the winter. She was happy to tell us about living all year in Haines.
